Finding the right mascara is no easy job. You’d think makeup companies would go out of their way to bring a good product to market since mascara is the one cosmetic most of us won’t go without. They seem to prefer following trends, like the waterproof or fiber enhanced ones of late.
I don’t know why waterproof mascara is so popular. I can’t stand the stuff and most of my friends agree. It is too stiff and harsh. Plus it is difficult to remove. On the other hand, mascara that is not waterproof will leave you looking like a raccoon if you aren’t careful. Smudge proof would be a good alternative.
If you have sensitive eyes, your quest for the perfect mascara is even more difficult. Even if your eyes and skin are not necessarily sensitive or allergy prone, you can still get irritation and infections from mascara that has fibers in it. Sure, they give you thick, long lashes, but the fibers shed. If they fall into your eye, it can lead to problems.
One thing I have noticed is that price doesn’t tend to matter much. Expensive mascara can have the same undesirable characteristics as the cheap kind. Likewise, some of the less expensive brands seem to work well for me.
Everyone has their own goal; for instance, I prefer brown shades that enhance my lashes. You might like black mascara that gives you super long, thick lashes that stand out in a dimly lit club. I guess that is why there are so many choices on the market.
If you are having trouble finding something you like and want to be gentle on your eyes, avoid waterproof or fiber filled brands. Some you might want to consider are Maybelline’s Lash Stylist or Lash Discovery. And don’t confine your search to the cosmetics counter at a department store like Macy’s. You may find the perfect mascara at a drugstore for much less.
