Is the Quality really in the Price tag?

Lip glosses (two in number), the shape for the two is the same as well as the size. Except for the packaging, you may find yourselves under pressured to spot what makes one different from another. However, one lip glosses has a price tag of $10, while the other is priced $25. If a product is a budget-buster, and another is a bargain – why is it so?

drugstore makeupMy mom would always say; the extra $15 on that lip gloss should better gloss your feet and hands as well. Each year, women’s expenses on makeup come to a huge sum – both the makeup they purchased over the counter from posh department stores, and the ones picked up from a local store.

Looking at the one from the department store, you may not spot any difference between it and the one from a local drug store – however, the one from the department store can have price tag three times higher. Is the quality really in the price tag?

Well, sometimes… price is a determinant of quality, but not always, but generally, there’s a whole lot of differences between products from department stores and the ones purchased from the drugstores.

The Ingredients Used
A lot of base ingredients are used in making cosmetic products – e.g. fragrances, fillers, moisturizers, emollients, binders, sunscreens, etc. Generally, department stores’ cosmetics feature quality base ingredients – this is evident in several ways; the products last longer, glide on smoother and are usually more gentle on the skin.

In addition, department store cosmetic products may also feature substances (exclusive compounds) that can combat skin issues like acne as well as improve firmness. These exclusive ingredients are usually properly researched and tested – making the product containing them more costly.

The Featured Pigments
Cosmetics from department stores also appear to feature more pigments than fillers – these pigments are also usually fine-textured, making the color more real and deep. Again, you would find more color options with department store cosmetics, – this is common with concealers and foundations. The differences are simply endless…

Quality of Service
There are flexible services at department stores. For instance, you can experiment with any product of your choice, even take home some samples and also have someone to give recommendations along the line of your intended choice of product. On the other hand, such quality service is rare in a drugstore.
