How Many Shoes Are Too Many?

I’ll admit it. I’m a shoe addict. I love shoes and I probably have more pairs of shoes than any reasonable woman should own. However, can you really have too many shoes? While most of us shoe-lovers don’t fall into the category of having our own mechanized shoe closets to house our beauties in, I suppose it is possible for the average gal to get out of control.

After all, a nice pair of Jimmy Choo or Manolo shoes could equal a mortgage payment or even a nice weekend getaway to the beach. If you have to sacrifice on the necessities in life so you can feed your shoe addiction, that might be a sign you’ve taken your love of shoes too far.

To get your spending under control, try to avoid buying the latest fashions each season. Instead, buy classic shoes that will last for a much longer time so you will have a chance to get your money’s worth out of them. Yeah, easier said than done, right?

Of course, if money is no option, there may be nothing holding you back from becoming the next Imelda Marcos – or is there? Even if you can afford to buy hundreds of pairs of shoes, do you really need to? You’ll certainly never be able to wear them all often enough to get value from them, and think how the money might be better spent. Even if you don’t need the money, think of the people and charities that could benefit from the money you spend on a high price shoe museum.

Should you feel bad for being a shoe addict? Probably not. Of course, those words come from a fellow addict, so how could I possibly judge? I am well aware of the lure of those cute Manolo pumps and the desire to own a pair in every color of the rainbow. As far as addictions go, being obsessed with shoes is surely much better than others, and at least we are in good company!
