When growing up as a teen, the quest to get new tops was something I couldn’t quench until it is satisfied. I would employ both nagging and psyching until my mom would have no choice but drive me down to the renowned Casuals Clothe Stores where they stock cute casuals. I loved the puffed sleeved, patterned types and great plain colors. My best opportunity to get as many as possible is when there’s a dance in school, or when there’s need for multiple clothe changing within my dance group (outside school). I would come home to scream as loud as I can, “New tops for my dance mom!” Other times are when the school photo comes up, or when hanging out with buddies (hanging out for good).
Now that I’m a mom, I’m reaping the fruits of my sowing – my teenage daughter would almost nag life out of me just to get new tops for this dance and that outing… just the way I nagged my mother those days! Hey, these things have a way of bouncing back! My Lilly would insist on a new top as if it is a ticket to success for whatever it is she wants the top for. It’s merely a crave for something new to get an approval, or feel and look different – just being fashion conscious. Well, to an extent, I did not always give in to my daughter’s nags for new tops, since I saw she was headed for an odd way (history must not repeat itself – you know what I mean).
The truth is that the fashion world is behind the notion that feeling, fresh and on top comes with new tops. It’s true, that’s the reason for all the seasonal collections, especially when they start showcasing them through the stunning models or actresses. Certainly, it feels like mere mortals have never set their eyes on these clothes or anything close to them when the Catwalk Temptresses start show-casing them.
Back in those days, provided you look good. It doesn’t matter whether it is a new top or one that has been worn more than four times. Nowadays, the emphasis is on looking flawless 24/7. You are expected to put on a different top (completely new); it feels like staying on top does not come without new pretty tops. Everyone seems to be caught up in this feeling created by the fashion world.
Today, if you are looking for the hottest in fashion tops, online places such as Hot Fash.com and a whole lot of them are making great waves. Such online spots also stock tubes, sexy halters cute tee, stylish tops, single shoulder looks, corsets …name them. My daughter’s room is so stuffed with tops that she can hardly fold or hang them away – she just does not know what to do with them anymore.
Well, I had to step into the scene and help out. I clean her closet and entire room every Spring and at other times also. I usually come across tops with tags – perhaps she is not aware such top is there! So many tops – that it’s difficult to wear them all. If I were like her father – she would get no more!
But you know a mom’s feeling… okay, now, she would be going out with her first boyfriend on a first date in a week’s time – she won’t feel cool and acceptable if I don’t get her new top.
