Some people sweat more than others. Some degree of sweating is normal, but other times it can be a sign of a dysfunction in your body. In other cases, it comes down to genetics; you may just simply sweat more. Unfortunately, that is my case. Although my problem is primarily in my hands, I do have to battle underarm perspiration as well. If you’re like me, there are several things you can try. You don’t have to go through life afraid to raise your arms!

If your problem is severe, you may want to see a dermatologist and get medical treatment for it. He may want to try something like electrolysis or Botox. Liposuction of the armpit area may even help. These procedures affect the sweat glands themselves, so they produce less fluid.
You may not want to go to extremes like that. Instead you may want to use powders that help soak up excess wetness. Body powder and baby powders usually work pretty well. Underarm preparations may help too. Deodorant will help you control the smell caused by perspiration but won’t do a whole lot to stop the sweating. Antiperspirants work to slow down or temporarily stop sweating. The active ingredient is aluminum, which gets absorbed into your skin. Given the link between aluminum and Alzheimer’s disease, I am not sure that is a good choice.
One of the easiest ways to deal with excess underarm perspiration is to use underarm pads. These have been around for years, but today they are ultra, lightweight and disposable. They won’t stop you from sweating, but they will soak up the sweat before it can reach your shirt so you won’t have embarrassing wet stains when you raise your arms.
Lifestyle changes may also help such as avoiding caffeine and eating a healthy diet. When sweating is caused by a health problem, getting your body in good shape may reverse the excess sweating. Just know there are several things you can try so you don’t have to put up with wet pits!
