Coconut Water: Myth or Miracle Sports Drink?

We’ve heard so much about super foods that are capable of preventing or healing a broad range of diseases, but the coconut water is a fairly new addition. People are fascinated by the properties of this drink and the increased in popularity is obvious, with the reason being less than self-evident. It’s true that it tastes great, and it doesn’t have any side effects, which is nice if we think about most of the things we drink daily, but the hype is not based on this alone.

coconut-waterThe ones who produce the drink and suggest the bottled coconut water is an alternative for those who can’t drink the content of a real fruit, have all the reasons to convince us that it’s a miracle. Among the beneficial effects, we can include extra energy, weight loss, enhanced health rate and some even go as far as present it as a testosterone booster or a remedy for diabetes and cancer. It sounds very good on paper, almost too good to be true, so a little research on the topic wouldn’t hurt.

With giants such as Coca Cola and Pepsi behind it, we can understand how it became popular so fast, but we can’t deny the solid fan base the coconut water had even before. While not as effective as traditional drinks for athletes, it has no side effects, and it definitely enhances performance. The ingredients work to some extent, in keeping the heart healthier and can be consumed throughout the day as it contains only a few calories. Time will tell how many of the benefits are real, but for now it is a risk worth taking.
