Would you rather be stylish or trendy? Not sure of the difference? Style is certainly a difficult thing to label. However, when you see a woman with style, you know it. Style is not just about the clothing or the fit; it also embodies confidence and self assurance. Another way to put it is when you are stylish, you wear your clothes. When you are trendy, your clothes wear you.
You can develop “a style” of your own that incorporates the latest fads and trends, yet still pale in comparison to someone who is classically stylish. That’s not to say you should avoid trends. Rather you should pick and choose the ones that work for you. Don’t be trendy for the sake of being trendy.
For example, if you are older, or heavier, or self conscious, it might be best to leave jeggings alone. If you can’t fully embrace the message your clothing sends and wears it in confidence, you won’t pull the look off. You don’t have to have the latest “style” to look stylish. Some classic lines never go out of style.
On the other hand, trends do come and go. If you are going to be trendy, you have to commit to keeping up with the times because there is nothing worse than wearing clothes that have gone out of style. Comfort and confidence both play a big role when it comes to being stylish, but don’t get lazy either. Just because you love a particular set of clothes, fleece, for example, it doesn’t mean you will look stylish in them.
To pin down the elusive concept of being stylish (and isn’t that what we all strive for?) you do need an eye for classic fashion and merge it with the trends you feel confident in. When in doubt, leave trendy outfits on the rack and go with what you know works.
